Qualifying Facility
A qualifying facility must meet the following guidelines.
•Must have available space of at least 100,000 ft2
oThe space may be either roof space or ground space
oWhile space need not be continuous, it must be in no more than three areas, and the areas must be close enough to one another that PV systems can be interconnected with the grid effectively
oIf the space is on a roof, it must be the roof of one single building
•Space cannot be significantly shaded or, if it is, the client must be willing to remove the shading items
•Due to the high cost or engineering challenges associated with installing PV on the following roof materials, the roof must not be composed of:
oClay or concrete tile
oMetal, including but not limited to standing seam metal roofing materials
oSlate or synthetic slate
oRoll roofing (single ply, aka 90-pound felt)
oCedar shakes
•Approved roof materials include:
oAsphalt shingles
oModified bitumen
oBuilt-up roofing
oRubber roofs (ex. TPO, EPDM, PVC membrane)
oFoam roofing
•The pitch of the roof should not exceed 5º
•It is best if the pitch of the ground does not exceed 10º
•The roof should be able to accommodate an additional load of 5-10 psf
