Mr. Mark Crowdis
Founder and Chief Executive Officer

Mr. Crowdis founded Think Energy, Inc. in 2000, building off his 15 years of experience in the energy and environmental industries. In addition to his leadership responsibilities for Think Energy, within the team Mark provides significant expertise on the electrical energy industry having successfully developed and managed new portfolios of renewable energy products for Green Mountain Energy. Mr. Crowdis has direct insight on the retail and wholesale electricity markets and leverages that knowledge when helping clients define, acquire and implement renewable energy systems. Mark also has an extensive background in sales and marketing which he draws upon when helping new renewable energy companies bring products to market quickly and profitably. His experience with Energy Star and the US EPA taught him how to collaborate with corporations and get them started on energy efficiency programs. Mark is a true entrepreneur, starting a small organic farm before he even graduated college.

Some of Mark’s accomplishments include: optimizing on-site renewable energy system design and aggressively negotiating contracts that resulting in saving one of Think Energy’s clients nearly $6.1M over 20 years; guiding the nation’s largest school system in developing a cost effective plan for minimizing their carbon footprint; helping a new renewable energy technology company; successfully launching a green power program for a utility that rapidly exceeded all sales targets and forming the largest US renewable energy aggregation purchase program.

Mr. Crowdis holds a Master of Science in Environmental Science from John Hopkins University and a Bachelor of Arts in History from University of California at Davis.

Dr. David Bernell, Ph.D.
Senior Clean Energy Market Advisor

Dr. Bernell is an expert in renewable energy policy analysis and development. David directs all activities working with Congress to enact renewable energy legislation, and recently led Think Energy’s effort with small wind turbine manufacturers to get Congressional passage of federal tax incentives for small wind technologies. Dr. Bernell also guides the team on projects relating to government incentive programs designed to grow green or renewable energy industry within their states, counties or cities. For these projects, David draws on his direct experience working for the Office of the Secretary of the Interior and the Office of Management and Budget (OMB). At OMB, David helped to develop the federal budget for solar and renewable power, climate change, energy efficiency, and many other energy programs; and at the Office of The Interior Dr. Bernell worked with the White House developing U.S. trade positions on agreements such as the Canadian Softwood Lumber Agreement and the Convention on Persistent Organic Pollutants.

Some of David’s accomplishments include developing renewable energy purchasing programs for the states of Massachusetts, Connecticut and Rhode Island. David has also advised internationally, assisting in the development of a green power program for a utility in Shanghai, China in collaboration with the World Bank.

In addition to his Think Energy responsibilities, Dr. Bernell is also an assistant professor of political science at Oregon State University. Dr. Bernell received his Ph.D. and Master of Arts in Political Science from Johns Hopkins University, and his Bachelor of Arts from the University of New Mexico.
